압사라(Apsara)는
신과 악마가 우유의 바다를 1000년간 휘저어 6억 명의 압사라가 우유의 바다에서 제일 먼저 태어나고 후에 불사의 명약 암리타를 얻게
되는데 압사라는 신들을 즐겁게 하기 위해 태어난 요정이다.
한국의 선녀와 비교되고, 힌두신화 라마의 이야기가 춤으로 표현되기도 한다.
앙코르 왓에는 1813개의 각기 다른 장식을 한 압사라가 각기 다른 포즈로 금방이라고 뛰어 나올 듯 하다.
